Power and Dependence
Venris is Lurra’s largest and wealthiest nation, ruled by King Rommald II Arenthon. Its dominion includes the dependent Duchy of Antadon and the island outpost of Cadena in the Southern Isles.
Venris presents itself as Antadon’s protector. The protection that helped the Duchy rebuild also cost it political independence: Duke Whyllis of House Argis governs under Venrisian supremacy, while the kingdom extracts as much as it can from his country. Venris condemns slavery and seeks its abolition in Sahr, yet exploits its own dependent neighbour.
Crown and Principalities
The kingdom’s mainland comprises five principalities and the capital. Each principality is governed by a noble house:
- Champimans — House Rochellevé; known for its chivalric traditions.
- Levagues — House Roquellard; ruled with an iron fist.
- Rorneuve — House Machedras; a centre of learning.
- Touluire — House Chabateuil; a centre of culture and the arts.
- Périyonne — House Béchages; a prosperous region of commerce and trade.
The capital, Cité de Venris, is ruled directly by Rommald II.
Society and Faith
Venrisian society is sharply stratified. Noble houses hold power over their territories, the clergy provides spiritual guidance, and commoners sustain the economy. Slavery is forbidden and punishable by death. The Ten Pillars of Lurra is the only faith officially recognised by the state, and its worship is widespread and devout.
Chivalry, refined tastes and the arts are prominent in Venrisian culture. So are chauvinism, elitism and vanity, particularly among the nobility. The kingdom’s claims to justice coexist with its treatment of Antadon.
Trade and Armed Forces
Venris’s alliance with Stalmont supplies the metal ores needed for its military and construction. In exchange, Stalmont receives timber from Antadon’s forests.
The kingdom maintains one of Lurra’s strongest militaries, organised into three branches:
- Land Forces (Forces Terrestres).
- Royal Navy (Marine Royale).
- Special Forces (Forces Spéciales Venrisiennes), which undertake sensitive and high-risk missions.
